The most common therapy is individual therapy where you meet with one of our therapists one-on-one. We offer therapy to children (3+ years), adolescents and adults. We have extensive experience with all these age and development groups. Children's sessions often are provided in combination with dyadic sessions where one or both of the parents/carers participate in the session. We offer EMDR (see modalities for more info) for children from 5 years, adolescents and adults.
Depression, fear, and anxiety are some of the most common and uncomfortable emotions that we can experience at some point in our lives. Through counseling and treatment, we are able to help you recover motivation, perspective, and joy that you once had in your life. The modalities that have shown to work best are Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT - for kids and young people), and Eye Movement Desensitation and Reprocessing (EMDR). See our modalities section to learn more about these therapies
Many individuals can experience symptoms associated with painful and traumatic circumstances. Anxiety, fear, and hopelessness are a few emotions that can linger post traumatic events. We can help you overcome these symptoms and guide you through the process of grief and healing. The treatment modalities with the highest success rates are Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (TF-CBT - for kids and young people), Cognitive Prcession Therapy (CPT - for adults) and Eye Movement Desensitation and Reprocessing (EMDR - for all ages!). See the modality section to learn more about these therapies as we offer them all
Couples therapy is a type of psychotherapy in which a therapist works with two people involved in a romantic relationship to help them gain insight into their relationship, resolve conflict and improve relationship satisfaction utilizing a variety of therapeutic interventions. At Stronger Together we are non-blaming and focused on the couple's and individuals' strengths. We are allies of the LGBTQI* community.
What is the difference between a psychologist, a psychotherapist and a counsellor?
All are mental health providers. Psychologists are focused on providing you with a diagnosis before beginning treatment. Counsellors and psychotherapists do thorough assessments too, but see less need for a name or label to describe what someone is going through. At Stronger Together Psychotherapy, we were trained in psychology in Europe and therefore have a good understanding of the Diagnostic & Statistical Manual of mental disorders (DSM5). We have extensive experience in treating many of the disorders mentioned. However, we will not provide you with a diagnosis. We prefer to work with you as an individual, couple or family without the labels, because every diagnosis will look different for every single person and be experienced differently for every single person.
Do you offer Medicare rebates or services on a Mental Health Plan?
As we are psychotherapists and counsellors, we are not able to offer Medicare rebates. However, your GP or health care professional can refer you to us. If you have used up your sessions under your mental health plan, you can also come to us. The cost of our therapy services is similar to the out of pocket expenses you would have after Medicare.
Do you offer insurance rebates?
Yes, we do. Contact us to find out if your health insurance is one of the nine health insurances we are providers for.
What are your fees?
Please contact us for a confidential chat to discuss your needs. We offer special rates for those on Healthcare Cards. We understand that times are tough for many due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We are here to support you.
Will my information be kept confidential?
Yes, absolutely. We adhere to the strict regulations of the Australian Counselling Association (www.theaca.org.au). However, if you or someone you know is at risk of hurting themselves or someone else, we have to report this as mandatory reporters. In the end, we want everyone to be safe.
How long and how often do I need to come to therapy?
Many things can be resolved pretty quickly, but not all. Your therapist will continue to check in with you about your treatment plan and progress. Eventually, you and your therapist will determine that you have met your goals for treatment. You can bring this up yourself any time in treatment.
We usually see people weekly or fortnightly. Some people choose to see our therapists twice a week. You can discuss your needs with your therapist. A common myth is that your therapist will fix your concerns. Unfortunately, this is not the case. We are not here to "fix" you, we are here to support you on your journey of healing, recovery and becoming your authentic self!
At Stronger Together Psychotherapy we believe that only the best possible treatments should be offered to you.
